At the End of the Road Grant Jerkins Books

At The End of the Road is a story about a rural little town in Georgia. You have families who grow their own food and can it for the winter months. You have good Christian people going to Sunday service even if they do not want to go. You have dirt roads to ride your bike freely without a care in the world. That is what ten year old Kyle was doing one sunny day. He was riding his bike in the middle of the road and he did not notice the car barreling down the same road right at him. The car swerved and flipped on it's side. Kyle was dumbfounded and he watched the bloody lady, whose fingernails had been ripped off, climb out of the car and head toward Kyle for help. Kyle was terrified and jumped on his bike and pretended that none of this nightmare happened. He found out that he was pretty good at acting normal when his world was crashing down around him. After that mishap, he and his little sister, Grace, accidentally set a field on fire while playing with matches. They swore to never mention it again and ran home and preceded to act normal, like nothing ever happened.

The problem was the very creepy paralyzed man that lived across the road has proof that Kyle and his sister were there on the day the fire started. After the deacon had a stroke, he was placed in a wheelchair and became known as the paralyzed man. Being paralyzed does not keep you from doing some very evil things. There is a young woman chained in his attic. He refers to her as his pet. He made sure that she could never call for help and he does very bad things to her. Since he has the dirt on Kyle, this paralyzed man decides to use it to his advantage. He has Kyle do all the dirty work that no ten year old should ever be subjected to do. These odd jobs have given Kyle a haunting, dead, glazed eye look. His sister is determined to get to the bottom of this and see what this old man is doing to her old brother to make him act the way he does. Unfortunately, she falls victim to the evil ways of the paralyzed man. Grace goes off the deep end which leaves Kyle to get the vengeance he has been waiting for since the first day he met this paralyzed monster.

Grant Jerkins has a way of luring you into the story so deep that you can hear the corn rustle in the fields. He has become one of my favorite writers. Yes, he writes thrillers, but each of his books are so unique. This book is about a child, but you may want to hold off on sticking this book into your child's hand until you have a peek at it. Grant Jerkin's never goes into graphic detail. He does not have to because he will lead you right to that point that you think something bad is going to happen and he sets up the scene and walks away. This leaves you letting your mind run away with how monstrous of an act has just played out. You imagination can take it deep down into the muck as far as it can travel.

Once again, I highly recommend this book. At The End of the Road by Grant Jerkins. Buy it now, turn down the lights, and enjoy a scary tale that will give you the shivers. It is Halloween and it is the best time to get shivers. Enjoy.

At the End of the Road Grant Jerkins Books Reviews

An okay read, gory in some parts but boring on others, otherwise an okay read but not the best novel I have read...
I bought this to read during vacation on the gulf coast in Florida. Dark and suspenseful, it was a fun and easy read set in the South. Great read for hot summer nights.
From the first page to the last word you are drawn into the life of a southern family and watch as everything right becomes wrong!! Pure evil lurks behind the corn rows? I could not put it down and read the book in one day!! Grant Jerkin is a very talented author and I believe you will enjoy his work!!!
I'm not the biggest fan of this type of book (they terrify me) though I was moreso when I was a teen. I picked this one up after I read an interview with the author mentioning that an event from his childhood had triggered the story. At the End of the Road is a story in the tradition of the best Stephen King or Robert McCammon riveting, heartbreaking, disturbing, masterfully crafted, and unputdownable. A great read.
This is the 2nd of Grant Jerkins' books that I have read, and it is a stunning thriller. Part of this reads like a southern slice of life novel, but the story is not in anyway a sweet look st life in the South. This is a thriller, with blood, violence, rape (implied, not expicit), and twisted, twisted, twisted. You can read other reviews to get plot summaries, so I just want to add my voice to the choir praising the relentless narrative of this well-written novel.

I will read ANYTHING Grant Jerkins is able to publish next.
I can't think of enough good things to say about this book. It was beautiful, and heartbreaking, and suspenseful, and perhaps one of the best books I've read in years. I am SO pleased to have found this author whose career I will now follow.

There are plenty of reviews if you're looking for a gist of the story, so I won't repeat what's already been said, but I will say this If you're a fan of beautiful writing that transcends genre, this is a book for you. It will break your heart at times, but it's also a book that doesn't let up from the word go. There were times when I could NOT put the book down, especially toward the end when I'm looking at my alarm clock thinking, "Just one more chapter, and I swear I'll go to sleep."

I'm beyond impressed, and can't wait to read the author's next book.
Having thoroughly enjoyed both Jerkins's debut novel, A Very Simple Crime, and At the End of the Road, I am now a fan and glad to have caught him at the beginning of his career. Downloading new releases from him on my is now a no-brainer for me. Mr. Jerkins is an outstanding writer of crime fiction, and I urge you to hop on board if you're looking for a new author to discover. End of the Road features a car accident gone wrong (and the aftermath) involving young Kyle Edwards in the 1970s. I won't say more than that so as not to spoil anything and (because people here on don't get that a review should not be a plot summary!!). It's a true pager turner that you will enjoy if you like dark mysteries. If I'm required to nitpick, I would say that his debut novel was slightly better, but this is certianly a great one.
